meet the woman behind the brand.
tmf is the culmination of more than 17 years of experience, excitement and experiments within the beauty industry. It’s founder and director, Jill Chambers, after first studying a bachelor of fine arts and fashion design in Western Australia, graduated in 1999 and then completed a diploma in make up artistry and special effects makeup. In 2005 she returned to school whilst working full time for a well know cosmetics company, and commenced study on a post-graduate Masters in Business and Management through Monash University. This unique fusion of professional development within the fashion world, cosmetic artistry and business are integral factors in the birth, and subsequent success, of this innovative and trail blazing brand.
At 22 years of age, and with $1000 to her name, Jill followed her dreams and the intuitive stirrings of her heart to Sydney shores. Soon after, Lancome placed her in charge of their new concept make up studio. Over this time Jill’s creativity, passion and business skills left a burning trail across Australia, working across Western Australia, New South Wales and South Australia, and under the guidance and teachings of some of the best in the business. She has been scooped up, with her obvious talent and passion recognized, and has woven her magic within such well known brands as Mecca Cosmetica, Bobbi Brown, Napoleon Perdis, Jurlique International, and notable fashion brands. These roles also offered Jill the opportunity to see the inner workings of some of the biggest cosmetic companies, and to gain a greater understanding of their responsibility to provide high quality products to their consumers. Her career has seen her work alongside internationally renowned makeup artists, providing artistry at high end fashion events and all the while listening to the wants, needs and frustrations of women with whom she was making up.
After years of growing tired of being exposed to the nasties that laden our everyday beauty products, Jill was determined to find another way. She realized that there was a huge need for a brand that offered fashion forward, earth friendly and skin loving products and services, and the tmf seed was planted. The concept would call on the expertise of Jill’s multipassionate areas of interest to create and provide these fashion orientated, high quality and gentle products.
In 2010, Jill began offering her freelance make up artistry under the trading name ‘The Makeup Factory’. Working part time, in conjunction with her role as brand manager for a number of fashion labels, she continued to consult with clients and professionals within the beauty industry and became inspired to create a more compassionate and ‘skin loving’ line of products. Jill’s dual passions and talents as a brand manager – where she learnt first hand the importance of establishing and implementing business strategies and developmental tactics – as well as her ‘on the floor’ artistry and commitment to excellence within her field, saw her start to dream bigger and more devotedly to creating a unique alternative in the market. Early mornings and late evenings were spent fanning the flames and investing her time, creativity and love into a relatively unexplored concept- cosmetics with conscience.
In late 2014 the tmf brand soft launched to gain market interest and feedback with an online store only, in July 2015 the brand entered it’s first bricks and mortar Stockist and has since flourished into an innovative, modern, mindful and inspiring alternative within the industry, that has since birthed a range of over 20 products – all of which are created with cruelty and nasty chemical free ingredients, are sustainably produced and packaged, and offers a flawless final product that enhances her clients natural beauty. Jill, an avid traveler for both pleasure and work, also recognized the importance of ease and convenience when choosing a product and thus the hero, and original prototype, of the brand was born; the 5 minute Face Kit.
Jill shows no signs of slowing down, with her vision burning brighter with each passing day. Her dream is to continue to educate women and spread the message that clean, cruelty free beauty is a better option [for consumers, for the animals and for the planet] than the larger, corporate mainstream brands and that ‘giving back’ is possible through mindful consumerism.
